Winter Life

We've been having a lot of fun this winter!
Our whole family went ice skating in January, and we did pretty well :)

The kids have been extra motivated to practice their instruments because of a reward. If they practiced 6 out of 7 days a week in January they got to have an ice cream from Wendy's. This month, they are aiming for 10 minutes a day, 6 days a week, and will be getting Chickfila! :)  Of course, I'm also benefiting from this ... but I also have to listen to the practicing ;)

We got to celebrate 2 birthdays in January. My nephew turned 10 and we spent a fun day with them. The cousins always have a great time together.  Kevin's dad and brother came to visit and we celebrated Grandpa turning 72!

We've also been doing a bunch of normal life things - watching a show after the kids are in bed...

doing puzzles...playing games after dinner...packing lunches and doing crafts...reading...

Thanksgiving Turkey

My brother-in-law raises turkeys, and we had one on Thanksgiving this year! It was a 31 pound turkey and took up a lot of space in my refrigerator for a few days before the holiday. I started the cooking process early so it was done by lunchtime.  Here is the turkey, barely fitting into my oven!  "the farmer and the chef" :)

Crazy May

As is typical with three active kids, we've had a busy last few weeks! Photos coming soon of the dance recital, Peter's birthday party, school activities and more :)  Here is our May started: No power for 5 days! A wind-storm went through our area and several power lines were knocked over. We did have school for 3 days. The weather was perfectly sunny and 70 degrees, so it wasn't too bad :)

Spring has sprung?

This week has brought some strange weather! On Saturday, it was freezing while we watched Peter's baseball game - it was the "late night, under the lights" 8:00 pm game. and my toes were numb when the game was over. Then, Sunday was beautiful weather to watch soccer! April scored TWO goals in her game! We had a silent-auction at a church lunch on Sunday to raise money for the Youth Group Missions Trip. Peter bid on a cooler full of interesting flavored soda-pop....and he won! The first one he tried? Pickle Pop.  For a few years, our neighborhood has been the area of choice for a few mallard ducks to nest. The momma duck picked my neighbors' driveway this year...it seems like Spring must be coming if there are eggs!
